Peers, Cheers, and Volunteers

$15.00

Peers, Cheers, and Volunteers is a story written by Danielle M. Chery, of a boy’s personal journey and challenges with self-expression and trust. It is intended for children ages 6 +

He doesn’t like school, he doesn’t like his classmates and he doesn’t like people. At least, that’s the Malik everyone knows. An only child abandoned by his mother, Malik lives with his dad, the only adult he trusts. His teacher Ms. August is always trying to get him to open up about himself, try new things, and trust others, but he’s not having it. A wise woman with an “earthy” approach and appearance, she realizes the need for patience in working with Malik. The day arrives, though, when she has a chance to affect a change in Malik’s attitude by introducing him and his classmates to a group of volunteers. As it turns out, Malik clicks with Michael, a volunteer who teases out the real Malik, and in so doing sensitizes him to both the value of volunteering and to the larger truth that there are people in the world who take the time to care.
